I do not recommend books or films specifically discussing or depicting eating disorders for my clients. Novels intended to start a conversation in healthy girls often trigger negative thoughts and behaviors for those predisposed to or currently in recovery for eating disorders. Instead, I encourage my clients to seek inspirational readings and continue writing the story of you. Through journaling and visualization, you connect inward and become the author of your own life.
The following books are not eating disorder specific but may help you to develop your own understanding of factors affecting overall physical and mental health, along with providing evidence-based techniques for creating positive coping mechanisms and healthy behaviors. The complex relationship between our brain, body, mind, and environment stimulates both illness and healing. These books reveal how we can be the architect of our own health and healing.
