The worst companion while traveling is an eating disorder…
Traveling can be *very* difficult for someone struggling with recovery. Here are a few practical planning tips to help you enjoy your trip AND prevent relapse….
1. Talk with your travel partner about specific triggers or concerns you may be having regarding the trip. Discuss dining/activities before you get there. Your family or friends can’t help you unless they understand you!
2. Journal ahead of time what your perfect vacation looks like. Include the emotions you will feel as you experience your time away. Read your entry daily leading up to the trip to maintain positivity.
3. Look up restaurant menus and bring your own comfort snacks..remind your companions that meal planning is highly important to your recovery
4. Use your support system! Let your coach know that you are traveling and set up short sessions in advance. Do not hesitate to text in difficult moments.
